Gaia

Most will say that Gaia is the spirit of over all good.

However this is a general description, one that doesn't even begin to describe the what or even who Gaia really is.

Gaia is an incarnate level Spirit of the Earth. Responsible for bringing the Garou and most of the other Fera into being, it is no surprise that she has been given her the names "The Mother Spirit" or "The Mother".

She has been said to be responsible for also bringing into existence the three powerful Triad Spirits. The Wyld, The Weaver, and The Wyrm. In the beginning, it is said that She existed within nothingness, but grew tired of nothingness. And from the darkness, from her will came forth the Wyld. With it, the birth of the universe. Raw energy, chaos and constant change were brought into being. But she grew tired of all this noise, and as if on her will alone, the Weaver came into being. The Weaver brought order and structure to the chaos and noise. But Gaia could see that these were two extremes of each other, there needed to be a balancer between them. And thus the Wyrm came into being. Consuming the things that the Weaver had created, in order to make way for new things, whiles at the same time returning the energy back to the Wyld so that more change and possibility could happen.

Some argue however that these three spirits were first, and that the first cycle was what created Gaia. When the Wyld spread energy into the cosmos, the Weaver ordered it, and the Wyrm consumed it; only to return it back to the Wyld. The great dragon had bitten down on its own tail, and thus Gaia was born.

What ever the creation story, Gaia is the spirit that nearly all Garou and other Fera turn to when in their darkest hours.

The Weaver

The Weaver is one of the great spirits of the Triat whose function was to spin order from the chaotic creative energies of the Wyld. Thereby giving them a form and function in their given existence before being consumed by the Wyrm when their time had ended. Thus maintaining a balance between the bedlam of the Wyld and the ridged order of the Weaver. In the umbra, the Weaver's avatars, minions, and marks take the main forms of spiders, insects, web like patterns over the Umbralscape, and the OneSong, the "song" that is used to control spirits, drones, and lull beings to the Weaver's sway.

History of the Weaver

Many agree that the Weaver was the first to bring about unbalance within the system of the Triad. None Really know what set the Weaver off, most stories tell that she grew tried of seeing her perfect creations being either changed by the Wyld, or destroyed by the Wyrm. Perhaps only her grandchildren, the spider-changers, the Ananasi know the real story. When she confronted these two spirits on why something had changed or why one of her prefect patterns was gone, the two replied that that was simply their jobs. The Weaver wasn't pleased with these answers and began to think upon them. As she the webs of her mind growing tighter and tighter until they snapped at the question of "What is the point in making a pattern, if the Wyld is only going to change it or the Wyrm is going to destroy it anyhow?" With this empty question, the Weaver was driven mad. Believing that she could better understand the changes made to her design if she could stop them from happening, She attempted to capture the Wyld within her webs. However this was unsuccessful due to the ever changing nature of the Wyld. It was then that she raised the Gauntlet between the flesh world and the spirit world, sending many spirits screaming into slumber. Once she had done this, she then proceeded to capture the Wyrm, the force of entropy, within her webs. The Wyrm proved easier to capture. The Wyld did attempt to help his brother, but the Weaver had learned new ways of spinning her webs and nearly captured the Wyld. As the Weavers webs bound tighter and tighter into the Wyrms flesh, the Weavers insanity spread to him, and where once was balance was now corruption.

The Loom and Thread. The Weavers Tools

Once the Weaver had confined the forces of entropy within her webs, she turned her attentions to a new creature on the earth's surface. Humans.

Whether they know it or not, Humans revere her in some way or another, and owe it to her for planting the three greatest seeds in their primitive ancestry. It was believed that in the long run, these powerful seeds would help her understand her own creations, thus freeing her from her insanity.

These seeds are Dogma (the superior virtue of one belief over another), Science (the process for evaluating empirical knowledge about the universe) and Technology (the use of tools of increasing sophistication to enhance the abilities of an individual or group). These three seeds would help shape the humans' world to better themselves, whiles at the same time serve the Weaver's goals for a uniform, rigid stasis.

However other factions in the world help serve the pattern-maker's purpose without knowing it.

These factions can range from mundane corporations such as DNA, to the supernatural, such as the control freak technocratic mages of the Technocracy. who revere her in one form or an other. The Glass Walkers, despite their cries of other wise, have become unwitting pawns for grandmother spider.

With the Weaver having so much control over humanity, she doesn't need to bring herself to the tactics that the Wyrm uses when recruiting others to do its dirty work. Humans do that for the Weaver almost without being asked to. However there are a few rare special beings that the Weaver chooses to become Drones.

With some few exceptions, Hunters (they hear the OneSong as an annoying whining), Changelings (The Weaver is Banality in of itself. Total death of the Fae Soul), certain Mages, these being the Nephandi (they are seen as Wyrm, and out right bound into the pattern web) , or Marauders (though claiming to serve some semblance of order, they are just too chaos bound), Wraiths as they are dead, Mummies (they are already in a state of 'clarification' and making them drones would make them no different from "normal" drones.) along with Ratkin who are too Wyld tainted, and Nuwisha who most likely are under the Tricksters blessing, almost any creature can be selected to be a Drone.

However as stated before, with the Weaver's thumb so firmly on the pulse of humanity and its lust for a better world brought to you by technology, that she can almost easily accomplish her goal of enforcing ridged stasis on the whole of creation without them.

The Wyld

The Wyld is one of the three spirits of the triat representing the forces of pure and unbridled creation.

Wyld and Shifting Breeds

The Wyld is perhaps the most cherished part of the triat because it is also the most threatened. While the Weaver approaches and forces stasis on the Wyld, and the Wyrm attempts to destroy it, the Wyld can only spin new ideas out to protect itself, then changes it's mind and makes everything the color purple.

The decline of the Wyld is linked heavily to the decline of the natural world. Very few places exist, in the real world or the Umbra that are heavily affected by the Wyld.

Wyld and oWoD Changelings

Changelings, being creatures destroyed by the Weaver (or banality) and the Wyrm (which is what the wyrm does, after all) are lovers of the Wyld, as it is the Wyld that allows the Dreaming to exist in the Umbra, and was responsible for the creation of the fae. The Wyld embodies both the seelie (light-hearted) and unseelie (nightmarish) sides of thier natures.

The Wyrm

The Wyrm is an incarnate level spirit of the Triad whose original purpose was to maintain the balance between the chaos of the Wyld and the rigid order of the Weaver. By consuming the ordered structures of the Weaver, it would return ordered pattern back to raw energy, thus bringing everything into balance. But it is also believed that, It would also keep the balance between things via encouraging the Wyld to spread its chaos were things were too ordered and encouraging the Weaver to push order where there were areas of too much chaos. In this time the Wyrm represented decay, entropy, and most importantly balance.

However when the Triad fell out of balance because of the Weaver's insanity, the Wyrm too fell out of balance. And whiles the Weaver didn't change her original purpose (just how that purpose was... enforced), the Wyrm changed dramatically. What was once balance was now replaced with corruption. Places of the Wyrm with in the umbra, include places that are tainted with areas that appear as if they have been burnt down, contain putrid smell of decay and blighted almost radioactive green spots. However, they can also contain intangible "feelings", such as Rage, lust, greed, or an over whelming feeling of insanity. As the Wyrm's tendrils can get into anything, the over all feeling of "wyrmyness" is more of a psychic feeling than an actual tangible thing.

History of the Wyrm

Many argue over where the unbalance began first. Did it begin with the insane Weaver who sought to understand everything and spin everything into her pattern web? Or was it the Wyrm who brought about the unbalance in the Triad. Most will agree that it was the Weaver who was at fault. However this does not excuse the Wyrm for what it is today. In the beginning the Wyrm was brought into existence as a need to fill the space between the Wyld's turbulent energies, and the Weavers systematized patterns.

Nibbling on the pattern web here and there, and spewing out raw energy. Though despite fulfilling its purpose, it felt lonely. He alone understood the joy, and peace that destruction brought. There was a place and time for everything. When forests grew too cluttered on their floors, a time to come with fire, and burn away the old. Not only did this release the potential that was left rotting, but would bring forth seeds for the future. A time to flood the desert when its time had come. The flood would bring with it fresh silt and new life could grow. A time to bring the great mountains down, so that other things would replace them.

This balance however was soon to change... The Weaver approached the Wyrm after creating many things, and wanted to know why it felt that it needed to destroy her beautiful and perfect creations. The Wyrm seemed eager to tell her of his purpose, for none had ever asked him why he did what he did. Yet when he expressed the personal joy that he felt when he did destroy something made by the Weaver, she became upset. This lead to her insanity, after which she came after the Wyrm and began tying him up in her pattern web.

The Wyrm panicked and called for aid from his brother the Wyld. However the Weaver had learned new tricks in making her webs, and he too was nearly caught up in her webs. As the Weaver's webs bound tighter and tighter into his flesh, bits and pieces were rended off. However these bits and pieces were but parts of the whole, and as they went out to do their jobs, they only did parts of them. The flooding of deserts never stopped. When a forest burned down, nothing would grow back. Mountains were pummeled into the earth unnaturally leaving behind huge craters. These parts of the Wyrm were doing their jobs either too effectively or too early.

But another thing happened as the webs drew closer and closer around the Wyrm, the Weaver's insanity spread to it. And balance became corruption.

The Wyrms Minions.

Trapped in the pattern web for an endless period of time, the Wyrm had nothing to eat but itself. Struggling to free itself, it tried many different ways, and in doing so, it fractured its mind into many parts. However three parts became dominate in the Wyrm's struggle. These parts are now known today as the Triadic Wyrm. Each of these three aspects of the hydra's head acts also as a twisted mirror of the three Triad Spirits.

As the Wyrm can sink its teeth into everything and corrupt its aspect, thus too there are many other "minor" heads born of the thoughts, feelings, dreams and desires of the beast. These Urge Wyrms were small enough to spill through the spaces of the pattern web that encased the Wyrm, and went forth seeking new hosts and victims to inflict their messages upon. But the Wyrm also has physical substances in which it can draw power from and hold to manifest.

These twisted corruptions of basic elements are known as Elemental Wyrms. Most of which are the corrupted elements of fire, earth, air and water These and all minor spirits under them are known as Banes. Spirits that have been twisted to serve the Wyrm's purpose of death, destruction, depravity, and desecration. Feeding off the negative energies, pollution, and trauma of the suffering mankind inflicts on itself, its environment, and Gaia in general, they can become great swarms around the worst places of the Wyrm's infection. With this spiritual foot hold in the world, the Wyrm has been able to make a stranglehold on the physical world. Using banes as a way to promise power to the weak willed and creating twisted possessed humans or sometimes animals called Fomor, (fomori is plural).

It also hides its face through the vast corporation known as Pentex and its many subsidiaries. But it takes very perverse pleasure in knowing that it brought down one of Gaia's own with the fallen tribe known as the Black Spiral Dancers. The warped mockeries of the White Howlers.

With Red Star Anthelios glowing in the bright umbral skies, the Gaian Garou have their work cut out for them.
